Heat

A Board Game

About The Game

Board.jpg

HEAT.. Who Is On Fire! is an adrenaline rush two player board game full of adventure and twist, designed during a Fundamental of Game Design module at Queen Mary University of London. Player can drive either Jonathan’s car or Paul’s car, who are brothers and love cars. They planned to build their own car and would do friendly races with each other. This friendly battle gradually boosted their ego, now they both became each other’s rival. Player will encounter lots of tiles in between the game, one will speed up the winning chances (Advantageous Tiles) and others will impede the chance of winning(Obstacle Tiles). This game consists of two laps and who crosses the finish line first, while taking benefits of advantageous tiles and avoid obstacles tiles to boost their speed, wins the game. Your win is only based on your luck (which number occurs while rolling a dice) and how efficiently you play.

Heat was started with a simple idea of a board racing game inspired by Flamme Rouge. To bring this idea to life, I started designing the game using simple brainstorming techniques to generate different kinds of innovative ideas. Once I had a general outline of the game, I started putting the simple ideation of the game into paper to visualise how will it look. I drew the whole board using a pen, paper and required accessories.

Different Types of Elements

Surprise Cards

I came up with five different types of surprise cards which has their distinct features/moves in the game. These cards were added to get advantage over their opponent or mess with them on their moves.

Car Upgrade Cards

There are four distinct types of Car Upgrade Cards. Car Upgrade cards were incorporated to the game to provide the player an advantage to move their car quickly than their opponent.

Refuel, NOS & Engine Repair Cards

There are Fuel Refill, Engine Repair & NOS cards which has their own distinct features in the game and can be used when player hops on a certain tile on the board.
